Guinn (Hebrank) Willochell ’00 was a key force during the most dominating period of volleyball in Washington & Jefferson College history. During her four years with the program, W&J posted a 98-38 record (27-2 conference match record), claimed four Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships, and made three ECAC Division III Tournament appearances. The Presidents won ECAC titles in 1997 and 1998.
During the 1997 ECAC championship tournament in New York City, W&J topped Johns Hopkins (3-1) and host NYU (3-0) to claim the program’s first-ever ECAC crown. W&J capped a school-record setting 30-win season in 1998 with triumphs over Richard Stockton (3-2) and Frostburg State (3-2) in the ECAC Championship.
Willochell and her senior classmates helped W&J become the first PAC school to win four consecutive conference titles, a feat that has only been matched once since.
A 5-foot-9 middle hitter, Willochell is W&J’s all-time kills leader during the side-out scoring era (1985-2000) with 1,041. The NCAA changed to rally scoring for the 2001 season.
Willochell is also second in program history with 224 service aces, fourth with 807 digs, and fifth with 249 blocks.
During her senior season in 1999, Willochell was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player after amassing 291 kills, 214 digs, 62 blocks and 44 service aces in 28 matches.
Willochell currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina, and works as a human resources professional.
