John Bord ’73 is the recipient of the Robert M. Murphy Award.  Bord was the center on the 1971 and 1972 W&J football squads and a two-time All-Presidents' Athletic Conference selection.  Bord was a leading blocker for one of the program's top aerial combinations, W&J Athletic Hall of Fame inductees quarterback Don Kasperik '72 and receiver Rich Pocock '72.

Following his senior season, he was selected to the Associate Press All-State University and College Team.  He also was selected as the co-captain of the W&J track & field team in 1973.

Bord transferred to W&J after two successful seasons at Potomac State.  The 1970 Atlantic Junior College Coastal Conference honoree was inducted into the PSJC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.

Bord graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1983 and has embarked on an impressive career in law and community leadership.  After spending 13 years as the Taylor County (W.Va.) assistant prosecutor, Bord has served as the Taylor County Prosecutor since 1998.

The President of the West Virginia Prosecuting Association from 2010-2012 is the state liaison to the National Football League and Major League Baseball.  He is also a member of the West Virginia juvenile and adult justice reform oversight committees and a West Virginia Bar Foundation fellow.

Bord has been the Chairman of the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute Board of Directors.  He is a member of the Grafton City Hospital Board of Directors, Grafton Lions Club, and the Barbour-Taylor County Community Corrections.  Bord also serves as chairman of the Friends of McKinney Field and First Baptist of Graft church council.

In 2015, Bord was contacted by Turner Network Television (TNT) production team of the true crime series “Cold Justice”.  The series reopened unsolved cases with the consent of local law enforcement.  The series worked with Bord and the three-year old case eventually produced a conviction.
