Michael Grasso ’08 is the first men’s golfer in Presidents’ Athletic Conference history to earn an at-large bid to compete at the NCAA Division III Championship. A three-time national qualifier, Grasso became the first men’s golfer in W&J history to be selected to the PING All-America Team.
Grasso helped the Presidents win three PAC championships during his career, the first coming in 2006 when he earned PAC Medalist honors following a 36-hole score of 149 (72-77). That same team went on to earn its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska. Grasso’s 22nd place individual finish set the bar for future PAC golfers on the national stage (76-78-75-75) and the Presidents made the team cut with a 19th place showing.
One year later, Grasso tied teammate Dave Richards for PAC Medalist honors with a two-day score of 146 (75-71). The PAC did not have automatic qualification status to the NCAA Championship, but Grasso was selected as an individual, becoming the first PAC golfer in history to earn an at-large invitation to the national tournament.
Grasso helped the Presidents claim a thirdstraight PAC championship in 2008 and earned All-PAC status for the fourth time in his career after placing eighth at the league tournament. W&J finished one stroke off of making the cut at the NCAA Tournament and tied for 24th place.
He helped W&J win three PAC team championships, including two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
Grasso capped his career by being named a 2008 CoSIDA Academic All-American. He was the first W&J golfer to be recognized on an Academic All-America team. Ben Peticca became only the second in school history following the 2021 season.
