Terry Evans ’70 brought distinction to Washington & Jefferson College as one of the top guards in school history. W&J has claimed nine PAC men’s basketball championships throughout history and Evans was the leader of two of those championship squads in 1969 and 1970.
Evans is one of 22 players in school history to score 1,000 points after finishing his career with 1,064. At the time of his graduation, he was the fourth-leading scorer in Presidents’ history.
He played and started all 72 games of his career and was a three-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference honoree. The Presidents won 42 games during his career and he served as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons.
Evans teamed with Scott Herz ’72 to form one of the college’s top scoring duos in history. Herz was inducted into the W&J Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
Evans has an equally distinguished of a career following his graduation from W&J. He went on to earn a M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1974. Since 1996, Evans has worked as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.
For the past 11 years, Evans has served as the Director of the Arnold Palmer UPMC Cancer Center in Greensburg, Pa. Evans is a past recipient of the Leo Criep Excellence in Clinical Patient Care from the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He served as President of the Pennsylvania Oncology Society in 1994 and also was named to the Best Doctors in America, most recently in 2014.
From 2008-2013, Evans was the chairman of W&J College’s Pre-Professional Committee.
