Swimming & Diving continues at PAC Championships

FULL RESULTS/LIVE LINKS FOR SATURDAY

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson swimming and diving teams continued action on an exciting day at the 2014-15 Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships.

After two days, the women have advanced a spot in the team standings, moving up to third place with a score of 290. The men sit in fourth place with a total of 319. The PAC Championships, as well as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, combine to form the annual James E. Longnecker Invitational, hosted at Grove City.

Alexandra Martinez broke the school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.68 to finish third, besting the previous mark of Kaitlyn Orstein in 2006 by eight-hundredths of a second. Kevin Dunigan shattered the school mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.41, more than a second-and-a-half faster than Jacob Breymaier who set the original mark in 2003. Dunigan's NCAA B-Cut time was also good enough for second place in the event.

Another trio of school records almost fell as well as Jessica Sweitzer narrowly missed Orstein's time (1:54.27) in the 200 freestyle in placing third with a 1:54.71. Chris Ratliff missed the school mark in the same event by .01 with his third-place finish that timed in 1:43.77. The men's 800 freestyle relay of Ratliff, Nick Willison, Owen Hanna and Mike Magdic narrowly missed the school record with their fourth-place finishing time of 7:04.42. Their female counterparts were third in the event in 8:00.37.

In other action, the women's 200 medley relay was fourth with a time of 1:51.52 and the men finished fifth in the event in 1:36.87.

Five Presidents scored top-15 finishes in the 400 individual medley as Willison led the way with a fourth-place finish in the men's edition in 4:12.22. Jon Spehar was 10th in the race. Jenny Matuszewski also placed 10th in the women's version with a 4:58.17. Amber Miller and Madison Nervig finished 12th and 15th, respectively.

Alexis Glenn joined Martinez in the top eight of the 100 butterfly in 1:00.70 and Laura Travers placed 13th, touching the wall in 1:02.70. Matt Noel scored an 11th-place finish with a 53.46 in the men's 100 fly. Rachel Nye finished 15th in the women's 200 free and Jake Meyers (seventh), Hanna (13th) and Ben Mancini (15th) also placed.

Ann O'Connor scored in the 100 breaststroke for the women, notching 15th place and a time of 1:14.31. Ross Nappi also placed 15th in 1:02.14.

Four from W&J did well in the 100 backstroke, led by Rachel Murphy's fifth-place women's finish in 1:00.14 and Alexis Glenn's 1:01.13 and seventh. Alexandra Gartner was 11th for the women in the event. Magdic led the men with a sixth-place showing in the event with a time of 52.64.

Action concludes on Saturday, Feb. 14 with the preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
