WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team hosted Grove City on its 2016 Senior Night where they recognized senior teammateÂ
Rachel Clauss before topping the Wolverines, 15-3.
With the win, W&J clinches its first Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III regular season title as well as securing the number one seed in the CWPA DIII Championship, hosted Saturday-Sunday, April 16-17 at Connecticut College in New London, Conn. The Presidents improve to 11-4 overall this year, while boasting an unblemished 11-0 league record with three games remaining.
Laura Travers opened up scoring with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart, giving the Presidents a 2-0 edge at 5:52 in the first quarter. W&J kept momentum asÂ
Tess O'Neill found the back of the net at 5:05 andÂ
Liz Klock notched a goal at 2:45. Grove City got on the board when it struck with a little over a minute (1:09) left in the first quarter.
With a goal only 32 seconds into the second quarter, Travers once again initiated scoring.Â
Sarah Latzo registered her first of the game at 6:51, whileÂ

Brittney Pattersonfollowed by each posting their first of two. The Wolverines answered with a pair of goals, bringing them to 8-3 against the Presidents in the final second of the second quarter. The point would be the last of the game for Grove City asÂ
Ally Hopkins and the Presidents would keep them scoreless for the remainder.
Patterson held the lone goal of the third quarter, giving her a pair on the day and moving the score to 9-3.
Six separate Presidents scored in the final quarter of the match.Â

Kirsten Yatsko each put up a point (7:01, 6:22, 5:48), followed by O'Neill and Reising each recording their second of the game (2:51, 1:26).Â
Liz Klock finished with the final goal at 1:00, giving W&J the 15-3 victory.
W&J will be back in the pool tomorrow at 11:00 am as it hosts Penn State Behrend before traveling to Grove City to take on the Wolverines once again at 7:30 pm.Â
