WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson wrestling squad had a 1-2 showing at the John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes on Sunday afternoon.

The Presidents opened the day with a 30-19 loss against the host Colonels and then suffered a narrow, 30-24, defeat versus SUNY Oneonta, before capturing a 43-12 victory over Keystone.

Jared Walker (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) secured bonus points in all three of his victories on the day at 174, notching a 15-3 major decision against Wilkes before earning a fall with one second remaining in his match against Oneonta and needing just 1:16 to do the same versus Keystone. Alex Miller (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) had a 3-0 day for W&J at 184 pounds, picking up a forfeit against Keystone to close the day after opening with a pin in 1:10 against Wilkes and earning a 9-2 decision against Oneonta.

Mike Heinl (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) at 141, Sam Florentino (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) at 149, William Oberschelp (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) at 197 and Derek Allen (Avella, Pa./Avella) at 285 each went 2-1 in the three matches. Heinl grabbed a pair of pins over Oneonta (6:22) and Keystone (0:55) and Florentino earned an 11-4 decision against Oneonta at 149 before nabbing an 8-0 major decision versus Keystone. Oberschelp won by 8-2 decision against Wilkes and then also earned a forfeit against Keystone, while Allen pinned his heavyweight opponent for Wilkes in 4:28 and then earned a 2-0 decision in the same class against Keystone.

The 1-2 day ends the dual-match portion of the 2017-18 season at 7-9 for the Presidents. W&J will return to the mats when it travels to the John Summa Invitational at Baldwin Wallace next Saturday, Feb. 3.
