In Saturday's 65-13 win over Grove City, Coughlin broke the previous single-game record of six touchdown passes that he shared with Bobby Swallow (three times), Brian Dawson and Chris Edwards. He also matched the PAC record of seven set by Geneva's Zack Hayward in 2012.
The senior needed just 16 passes and 12 completions to reach the mark, a 75.0 percent completion rate. Despite being on the field for just 26 snaps, Coughlin threw for 337 yards, his sixth-straight 300-yard performance dating back to last season and 13th overall. His passing efficiency rating of 383.3 also shattered the previous W&J and PAC records (327.60 set by Swallow on Sept. 22, 2007 against Oberlin).
During the game, Coughlin moved into fifth place on the PAC career passing yardage list, crossing the 7,500-yard mark and surpassing Grove City's Andrew DiDonato, the Wolverines' first-year head coach.
