Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Saint Vincent outscored Washington & Jefferson 13-3 in the final 90 seconds and escaped the Henry Memorial Center with an 80-77 PAC men's basketball victory Wednesday evening in front of a raucous crowd.Â
The Bearcats (16-2, 9-0) extended their win streak to 12 games by limiting the Presidents (10-9, 5-5 PAC) to just one made field goal in the final 5:21.Â
W&J led for a majority of the first half, but the Bearcats' defense held W&J without a field goal for the final seven minutes of the half and took a 35-33 lead into the break.Â
The Presidents scored the first four points of the second half to reclaim the lead and
Mike Resnik's free throws at the 11:23 mark pushed the advantage to six (58-52).Â
Doug Johnson buried a three-pointer with 5:44 remaining for a 70-63 lead at the 5:44 mark and
Nate Bellhy's steal and fastbreak dunk on the ensuing possession made it a nine-point game.Â
SVC worked its way back into the game behind the three-point shooing of JC Howard. His triple with 21 seconds left gave the Bearcats their first lead since halftime at 76-75. He then grabbed a steal and hit two free throws for a three-point lead with eight seconds remaining.Â
W&J had one final chance to tie, but Johnson's desparation halfcourt shot missed.Â
Four players scored in double figures for both teams, but Isaac Turner (24) and Howard (23) proved to be the difference in the end. SVC shot 42 percent (26-62) and used a 38-22 edge on the glass.Â
Mike Resnik led W&J with 19 points, four rebounds and four steals. Bellhy added 15 points and four boards, while Johnson and
Tyler Haas both finished with 10. W&J made 54 percent (26-48) of its field goal attempts.Â
