W&J men's soccer wraps up 2014 with 5-0 win

WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania – Paul Boerema scored a pair of first-half goals to help Washington & Jefferson earn a 5-0 men's soccer victory over Thiel in the season finale for both teams Saturday at Alexandre Stadium.

Prior to the match, W&J (7-10-1, 3-4-1) honored the nine seniors on its 2014 roster and those players had a big hand in the victory.

Brian Hanna delivered a pass into the box 46 seconds into the match and Paul Boerema charged through and fired a shot past goalie Tyler Strite.
Hanna also set up the second goal.  After receiving the initial pass from Dylan Small, James Calvert lined home the goal for a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute.

Boerema followed with his second goal at the 12:03 mark and Justin Nolfi added a tally in the final minute of the first half.

Justin Carter provided the lone goal of the second half when he redirected home a corner kick pass from Sam Dudley.

Jon Best and Ben Wilt combined for the shutout in goal for the Presidents.  Best finished with three saves to end his career with 253 (6th in school history).  W&J outshot the Tomcats (2-15, 0-8) by a 26-9 margin.   Strite stopped 14 shots in the setback.
