W&J opens season with 85-59 setback at F&M


LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season with an 85-59 loss at Franklin & Marshall in the opener of the Lancaster Rotary Club Tournament.

Mike Resnik led two Presidents in double figures with 17 points on a team-best 8-of-14 from the field. He also pulled in five rebounds and recorded two assists and two steals. Nick Martin added 14 points and seven boards, tied for the team high.

Tyler Haas added nine points for W&J (0-1). Brian Lindquist was tied for the team lead with Martin at seven rebounds.

The Presidents connected on 23-of-62 shots from the field (37.1 percent) and just 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from three-point range. W&J also made just 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

Two Diplomats were in double figures for host F&M as Morgan Lee posted a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds and Cedric Moune had 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. The hosts held a 52-34 advantgae on rebounds.

W&J will play Bridgewater State (Mass.) at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 16 in the consolation game of the tournament. The Bears lost to New Jersey City, 85-84, in the other match-up on Saturday at F&M.
