FULL RESULTSLATROBE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson swimming & diving teams split a Presidents' Athletic Conference meet at Saint Vincent as the women pulled out a victory.
The women's race came down to the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, that the Presidents captured first and third places in to win. The W&J women improve to 7-1 in dual meets this season and 2-1 in the PAC after the 143-141 victory. The men dropped a 161-111 decision against the Bearcats to slip to 3-4 on the season with an 0-2 mark in the PAC.
Josh Vasko qualified for the NCAA Diving Regionals with a school-record score of 500.10 in the one-meter dive.
Nick Willison earned a victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.21. He later timed at 2:02.30 in the 200 backstoke to claim the event.
For the women,
Jessica Sweitzer touched the wall in 2:01.20 to win the 200 freestyle. She later earned a 100 freestyle victory with her time of 55.79.
Rachel Murphy posted a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.76. Later in the meet, she won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:40.58.
The 400 free relay was the final event of the day and the "A" team of
Rachel Nye,
Madison Babicka,
Laura Travers and Sweitzer posted a nearly two-second win in 3:43.62 to claim 11 points in the event. The "B" relay of
Alexis Glenn,
Jenny Matuszewski,
Ashley Phillips and
Alexandra Gartner registered a third-place finish in 3:56.13.
W&J will be back in the pool on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, with a 6 p.m. PAC meet at Bethany.
