Presidents Bounce Back To Win Gutierrez's 100th

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson limited Thiel to under 33 percent shooting (20-61) and gave Head Coach Glenn Gutierrez his 100th career victory Saturday as the Presidents topped the Tomcats 67-56 at the Henry Memorial Center. 

The Presidents (11-9, 6-5 PAC) shot 40 percent overall (19-of-48) and held a 43-37 rebounding edge.  W&J made 25-of-30 free throws, while the Tomcats (7-10, 4-7 PAC) struggled from the foul line, missing 14 attempts (12-26).

Thiel rushed out to an 11-6 lead, but W&J scored 11 of the game's 12 points during a three-minute stretch to post a 20-14 advantage at the 8:26 mark after a three-pointer from Tyler Haas. 

W&J's biggest lead of the half came after Mike Resnik's bucket in the final seconds for a 33-23 halftime edge. 

Brett Rubin-Goldstein made a pair of free throws at the 12:20 mark to up the lead to 47-34 and Thiel was unable to get closer than seven points the remainder of the contest.  Rubin-Goldstein finished with 14 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. 

Bellhy led all scorers with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Haas contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists.  Doug Johnson rounded out four Presidents in double figures with 10 points. 

Charlie Thomas led Thiel with 12 points. 

W&J hosts Waynesburg Wednesday night at 8:00 pm to end a four-game home stretch at the Henry Center.
