Box Score WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Fourth-seeded Waynesburg shot just 28.8 percent, but made nine three-pointers to pull out a 62-58 PAC Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal victory over fifth-seeded Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday night at Rudy Marisa Field House.Â
The Yellow Jackets (15-11), who grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, defeated the Presidents for the third time this season and advance to Thursday's semifinal game at third-seeded Saint Vincent. W&J's season comes to an end with a 13-13 record, the program's most overall wins since 2008-09. Â
Waynesburg jumped out to a 16-6 lead and held the advantage until the Presidents grabbed their first and only lead of the night (23-21) when
Mitch Locher knocked down a three-pointer at the 6:52 mark. During the 17-5 spurt that pushed W&J into the lead,
Brett Rubin-Goldstein buried a pair of three-pointers.Â
The Yellow Jackets regrouped and held the Presidents to only one field goal for the rest of the half. Christian Koroly's runner as time expired gave WU a 32-25 halftime lead.Â
W&J scored the first five points of the second half, but a triple by Byrum Louco ignited a 13-2 run which stretched the Yellow Jacket lead to 45-32 at the 14:01 mark. EJ Coleman's triple made it a 52-38 game midway through the second half, but the Presidents dug in and narrowed the deficit to 59-55 with 3:27 remaining after a pair of
Nate Bellhy free throws.Â
Doug Johnson's three-pointer with 1:22 left on the clock ended the scoring at 62-58. W&J missed its final five field goal attempts as well as two free throws and Waynesburg advanced despite making only one field goal in the final 7:53.Â
W&J shot 33 percent (21-64) and was out-rebounded 53-50. The Presidents had trouble at the foul line, making only 10-of-18 free throws.Â
Mike Resnik led W&J with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while Rubin-Goldstein scored 12 points in his final collegiate game. Locher added 11 points and seven boards, while Bellhy grabbed 13 rebounds and produced nine points.Â
Jacob Fleegle netted a game-high 17 points for Waynesburg, while Thomas Ellis netted 16 off the bench.Â
