W&J posts 3-1 win over UPG in home opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents began a four-game home stand with a 3-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg at Henry Memorial Gymnasium.

The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team moves to 5-2 on the season after winning by scores of 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18. UPG falls to 1-11 overall.

Nicole Bishwaty and Taylor Freeman each led W&J with 10 kills apiece, despite playing in just three sets each. Sarah Dinak was next with nine kills, while Lindsey Bennett added seven. Megan Stoehr collected 37 of W&J's 49 assists in the win. Dindak was the only President with multiple service aces, tallying two of W&J's seven.

Allison Means was the leader in digs, collecting 19, while Sarah Stedina was also in double digits with 13 digs. Bennett and Darby McMullen each registered three blocks and Stoehr and Dindak added two apiece.

W&J hosts a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match against Westminster (11 a.m.) and Bethany (3 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 20.
