FULL RESULTSERIE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson swimming and diving teams posted a split in non-conference action at Penn State Behrend and the Junker Center Pool.
The Presidents' women's team improved its mark to 9-2 on the season with a 170-115 victory over their Lions counterparts. The W&J men slipped to 4-6 in dual meets with a 157-122 loss against Behrend.
On the women's side, W&J earned wins in 11 of 16 events.
Alexandra Martinez,
Jenny Matuszewski and
Jessica Sweitzer each won two events for the Presidents. Martinez captured victories in both butterfly events, timing in 1:03.12 in the 100 and 2:30.46 in the 200. Matuszewski won freestyle events on opposite ends of the spectrum, touching the wall first in the 100 (57.34) and 1650 (19:30.92). Sweitzer also earned a pair of victories in freestyle events: the 200 (2:01.20) and 500 (5:35.70).
Also winning events for the women were
Alexis Glenn (200 backstroke - 2:21.32),
Elizabeth Klock (200 individual medley - 2:24.53) and the 200 freestyle relay (Glenn,
Madison Babicka, Sweitzer and
Amber Miller - 1:45.98).
In diving,
Jennifer Suder and
Haley Ashner both posted NCAA Division III Regional Diving qualifying scores in the one-meter as Suder won with an 11-dive score of 408.60 and Ashner was right behind at 400.75.
In the men's races,
Ben Mancini finished first in the 1650 with his time of 17:51.39.
Chris Ratliff earned a win in the 100 freestyle in 50.28 and
Matt Noel was timed at 57.69 to win the 100 fly.
Josh Vasko scored 391.55 in the one-meter diving competition.
W&J is next in action on Saturday, Jan. 24, traveling to Hiram, Ohio for a 1 p.m. match-up with host Hiram and Franciscan.
