WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson held Westminster to just 22 percent from the field in a 71-41 Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball win.
The Presidents improve to 12-4 on the season with a 6-3 mark in league contests, while the Titans slip to 3-13 overall and 2-7 in the PAC.
W&J held Westminster scoreless for the first 8:37 before a pair of free throws made it 9-2 with 11:22 on the clock. Westminster did not record a field goal until the 10:11 mark, 12-4.
After a triple by the Titans made the score 16-10 with 5:06 remaining in the half, W&J closed out the period on a 14-2 run that included seven points from
Taylor Cortazzo and five from
Valerie Dunlap who entered halftime with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The red and black held the guests to just four field goals and 14.8 percent shooting in the first half.
A balanced scoring attack led W&J to a 51.5 percent (17-of-33) shooting clip in the second half as 12 players entered the stat sheet in the half.
For the game, W&J connected on 42.2 percent (27-of-64) of its shots, while holding Westminster to just 22 percent (11-of-50). The Presidents also held a 49-34 advantage in rebounding and forced 24 Titan turnovers. In the paint, W&J out-scored the visitors, 34-10.
Dunlap and Cortazzo tied for the game high with 11 points apiece despite each only playing 22 minutes. Dunlap recorded her second-straight and 32nd career double-double with 13 boards. She also registered five of W&J's nine blocks.
Katey Wilson came off the bench to score a career-best nine points, including seven-of-seven at the free-throw line.
Taley Dunaway also chipped in a career best with seven points.
In total all 19 dressed players saw action with 13 finding the scorer's column.
W&J hosts Grove City at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 for Alumni Day at Henry Memorial Gymnasium.
