Graytok, Lindquist post double-doubles in 71-64 setback

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomores Brian Graytok and Brian Lindquist both recorded double-doubles, but the Presidents were unable to hold off a second-half comeback in a 71-64 defeat against Chatham.

The loss brings the Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team to 0-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. For the Cougars, they improve to 1-1 in the league in their inaugural season.

W&J built the lead to 11 points with one minute remaining in the first half following a 7-0 run that encompassed four points from Christian Rohaus on a three-pointer and free throw, a layup by Kodie Hanley and Graytok free throw. The Presidents took a 33-24 lead into intermission.

In the second half, the Presidents saw the lead shrink to five, 33-28, 1:40 into play, but a fastbreak dunk by Lindquist, jumper by Rohaus and triple by Joe Satira extended the margin back to 11, 39-28, with 16:40 to play. A 6-0 run by the Cougars got the game back to five as part of a 12-2 run that brought the guests within one, 41-40, at the 12:29 mark.

After a Rohaus layup put W&J ahead, 45-42, the visitors used a 10-0 run over a two-minute span to take their first lead of the game and pushing it to as far as seven, 52-45, with 9:30 remaining. Triples by Gianni Buarne and Graytok cut the spread to one, 52-51, as 7:34 showed on the clock.

Later, a layup from Satira tied the game at 59-59 with 3:51 left and a three-point play by Lindquist gave the Presidents the lead back at 62-61 with 2:35 to play. Thanks to an eight-of-nine showing at the free-throw line down the stretch, Chatham outscored the Presidents, 10-2, in the final 1:47 to post the league victory.

10 of Lindquist's game-high 17 points came in the first half, while his game-best 12 boards were spread evenly across both halves 6-6. It marked the second double-double in the sophomore's career and first this season. Graytok scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half, but grabbed seven of his 10 rebounds in the first period as he posted his first double-double. Rohaus joined the sophomores in double figures with 15 points and six boards.

For the game, W&J out-rebounded Chatham by 10, 46-36, including 27-14 in the first half. After making just 3-of-15 three-pointers in the first half, the Cougars connected on 6-of-11 in the second period.

The Presidents return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 8 with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Thiel in the final PAC match-up of the 2015 calendar year.
