W&J locks up third seed in upcoming PAC Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson locked up the third seed in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament with a 67-60 victory over Bethany on Senior Day at the Henry Center.

With the win, the Presidents improve to 19-6 on the season and 13-5 on the PAC. The PAC women's basketball tournament will feature a new format this season, with W&J earning a first-round bye and then hosting the winner of Monday's #6-#7 match-up. The quarterfinal contest with Monday's winner traveling to Washington is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

The Presidents held a 37-33 lead through one half of play

Eventually in the second half, Bethany owned a 46-45 lead through 7:30, but a 9-1 run by W&J was started with a Rachel Bellhy free throw and concluded with an Amirah Moore fastbreak layup at 8:17 to give the Presidents a seven point lead, 54-47.

A pair of free throws by Taylor Cortazzo at 2:47 gave W&J the largest lead of the game for either team, 65-55, as the Presidents cruised down the stretch to the 67-60 victory.

Beka Bellhy led the red and black with 16 points, bringing her to within 29 points of 1,000 for her career. She also added seven rebounds to tie for the team lead.

Moore contributed 14 points off the bench and grabbed six rebounds, while Valerie Dunlap notched 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and Danni Medovich knocked in a pair of three pointers en route to 10 points with five assists.

Prior to the game, W&J recognized its four senior members playing in their final regular season home games: Tori Bishop, Alexa DelGreco, Dunlap and Erin Lavery.
