WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- In a game that could potentially determine seeding for the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament, Washington & Jefferson dropped a 77-76 contest at Waynesburg.
With the loss, the Presidents move to 16-5 on the season with a 10-4 mark in PAC play. Waynesburg improves to 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the PAC. W&J's next two contests are against the top two teams in the league in Saint Vincent (second place; Wednesday at home, 8 pm) and No. 2 Thomas More (first place; Saturday on the road, 1 pm). The Yellow Jackets have already finished their meetings with the league's leaders and would hold the tiebreaker against W&J should the two teams finish with identical league records.
Beka Bellhy led all players with 24 points on 9-of-25 from the field.
Valerie Dunlap added added her eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and matched her career high with 17 rebounds (third time this season). It also marked seventh-straight game where Dunlap reached double figures in rebounds.
Danni Medovich rounded out the Presidents in double figures with 11 points.
W&J trailed, 38-37, at halftime and the two teams scored an identical 39 points apiece in the second half as the hosts held on for the win. The Presidents had the ball inside the paint with under six seconds to go, but were unable to get a shot off before losing possession. A missed Waynesburg free throw on the other end sealed the game as W&J was unable to get a heavy three-quarters court heave off before time expired.
