FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Junior
Ashley Bulger scored six goals, including five in the second half, to propel the Presidents to a 16-15 non-conference win at Methodist.
With the victory, the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team improves to 2-1 on the season. Methodist, who began the year with five consecutive wins, drops to 5-2.
The game featured one team scoring at least four straight on five different occasions.
After the Monarchs opened the game with four goals, the Presidents stormed back as
Diana Harvey and
Caroline Kallos each scored twice. The two teams then traded scores with Bulger notching her first, before the hosts scored the final three goals of the first half to possess an 8-5 lead.
Methodist picked up where it left off in the second half with four-straight scores. The final three came within 31 seconds of one another as they built the margin to 12-5.
From that point, W&J out-scored Methodist, 11-3. A 5-0 run with a pair of Bulger goals brought the game within 12-10 and then a Monarchs tally was answered with a pair of W&J goals to make it 13-12 with under eight minutes to play.
The red and black registered four of the final five goals in the game as
Alex Dikos brought the Presidents within 14-13 at 6:13 and then Bulger tied the game at 5:08. Just 27 seconds later, Kallos gave W&J the lead for good before Bulger added an insurance goal at 2:15 to push the lead to 16-14. Methodist found the back of the net with 58 seconds to play, but the Presidents held on for the win.
Bulger had a game-high six goals and seven points on 10 shots. Kallos finished with four scores and Harvey added a hat trick. Dikos posted two goals and a game-high two assists.
Holly DeLoache also found the back of the net once.
W&J converted on 8-of-13 free-position shots and led in draw controls, 19-14. The Presidents also held a 31-28 lead on shots.
Kelsey Roetenberg earned the win in goal, making eight saves to improve to 2-1.
The Presidents play at Greensboro (N.C.) on Wednesday, March 18 with a 3 p.m. start time.
