Women's Basketball's season ends in ECAC Semifinals

READING, Pa. -- The 2014-15 Washington & Jefferson women's basketball season came to a close with a 63-57 setback against Lebanon Valley in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III South Semifinals.

With the loss, the fifth-seeded Presidents close the year with a 21-8 record, the 11th 20-win season in program history. Lebanon Valley, the second seed, improves to 20-9 on the year and advances to face the host and top-seed, Albright, at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

LVC led virtually wire-to-wire, but twice in the second half W&J nearly erased double-digit leads.

A three-pointer by Peyton Carper at 2:22 pushed the Dutchmen lead to a game-high 15 points, at 61-46, but W&J used an 11-0 run to pull within four, 61-57, late.

Taylor Cortazzo started the spurt with a jumper at 2:09 and then Erin Lavery sunk a pair of free throws at the 1:31-mark. In an 11-second span, Danni Medovich made a free throw and then Alexa DelGreco turned a steal into a fastbeak layup and just like that it was an eight-point game, 61-53, with 59 seconds remaining.

A miss by LVC was rebounded by W&J and led to a good jumper by Valerie Dunlap, 61-55. Lavery scored a layup with six seconds left after she pulled down a defensive rebound with 12 ticks, but after a Presidents' foul, LVC sank a pair of free throws to secure the win.

Dunlap led W&J in her final career game with 15 points, all of which came in the second half. She also tied for the game high at eight rebounds. Amirah Moore finished wtih 10 points, while Cortazzo and Beka Bellhy added nine and eight, respectively. DelGreco matched the game high with six assists.

Carper led Lebanon Valley with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
