WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Five players scoring in double digits led the Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team to a 77-64 victory over Waynesburg. The win moves W&J to 9-2 on the season and 4-0 overall.
Beka Bellhy led the offense, scoring a game-high 21 points while also bringing down five rebounds.
Beka Bellhy currently leads the Presidents' Athletic Conference in the two categories, averaging 18.4 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.
Amirah Moore and
Rachel Bellhy contributed 12 points each. Moore also finished with a team-high six rebounds and five steals.
Danielle Parker tallied 11 points, and
Taylor Cortazzo was also in the double-digits, registering 10.
Two completed free throws to open scoring would be the last time the Yellow Jackets would be in the lead for the rest of the game. The margin eventually reached a game-high of 29 points when the Presidents led 62-33 at 3:39 in the third quarter following a jumper by Moore.
Although Waynesburg attempted to close the gap, bringing it back to 19 at 3:20 in the fourth quarter before continuing to reduce it, the Yellow Jackets were unable to overtake the Presidents. The game ended at a 13 point margin and a 77-64 win for W&J.
Next, the Presidents will host Geneva on January 6, at 6:00 pm.
