WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to hold the lead with almost five minutes remaining, but eventually fell to Geneva 78-70.
The Presidents trailed, 36-22, at halftime as just four players reached the score sheet in the opening 20 minutes:
Kodie Hanley (8),
Christian Rohaus (7),
Brian Lindquist (6) and
Joel Garcia (1).
A 10-1 run to open the second half brought W&J within five, 37-32, capped by a fastbreak layup from
Gianni Buarne at 17:59. By the 11:51-mark of the second half, a triple by
Brian Graytok had erased the margin entirely to force the first tie since 10-10 in the first half.Â
Geneva opened up a four-point lead, but seven-straight from W&J, including five by Graytok, put the hosts ahead 54-51 with 8:15 showing. The game was knotted at 57-57 after a layup by Geneva's Ethan Adamczyk with 5:58 to play that jump started a 9-0 run by the visitors that helped them pull away.Â
Rohaus was one of three players in the game with 20-plus points, leading W&J with 22 after making five three-pointers. He also pulled down six rebounds. Lindquist registered 17 points and eight boards, while all of Graytok's 12 points were in the second half, while also contributing seven assists and six rebounds. Hanley scored 10 points while adding career highs of nine rebounds and six blocks.
Geneva's Chaese Vaudrin, the leading scorer in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, recorded his first triple double with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.Â
W&J returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 9 with a 3 p.m. PAC tip-off at Thomas More.
