WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team tied with Thomas More, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29, to conclude its 2016 season.
The Presidents finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 6-7-3 and a record of 2-4-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Both teams were exchanging scoring chances through more than 30 minutes of play to begin the game but, in the 33rd minute, the Presidents broke through when
Matt Prezioso (Clairton, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) took control of an errant header from the Saints defense and one-touch-volleyed the ball to the lower right corner of the net for his third goal of the season.
The Saints were able to equalize in the final minute of the first half on a penalty kick by Ethan Smith following a Presidents foul in the goal box.
Both teams continued to exchange scoring chances and physical play throughout the second half. In the 79th minute, the Saints' Patrick Louis took a shot from the left side of the box after the ball had been batted around by a mix of players in front of the goal. With the keeper out of position,
Kyle Wisniewski (Green Bay, Wis./South West) sprinted to the goal line and kicked the ball away to preserve the tie.
