Presidents open PAC play with 62-50 loss to Geneva

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team dropped a 62-50 decision to Geneva on Wednesday, Nov. 30, in its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
 
The Presidents (0-6) jumped out to an early 10-2 lead to begin the game as each W&J starter scored two points but the Golden Tornadoes (4-2) responded with a run of their own to take a five-point lead. The first half saw three ties and five lead changes as both teams exchanged scores throughout with the Presidents holding a slight 24-22 edge at the half.
 
The Golden Tornadoes were able to pull away in the second half, however, by a margin of 40-26 to yield the final result.
 
Brian Lindquist (Narvon, Pa. / Pequa Valley) led the way on offense for the Presidents with a game-high 18 points as he shot 8-for-10 from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. The 18 points were also a season-high for Lindquist.
 
Christian Rohaus (Harrison City, Pa. / Penn-Trafford) and Mike Zappala (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) both scored nine points and both nailed two triples as Rohaus finished with five rebounds and Zappala came away with two steals while Sean Stinelli (Harrison City, Pa. / Penn-Trafford) added eight points, five rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal
 
In the first half, the Presidents limited the Golden Tornadoes to just 32.3 percent shooting from the floor, including 9.1 percent (1-for-11) from long range. For the game, the Presidents held a plus-three turnover edge and held advantages in points off turnovers (18-10) and second chance points (8-4).
 
The Presidents will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they travel to battle Saint Vincent in PAC action.
