BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team utilized a strong second half to roll to an 87-72 victory at Geneva in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.
Â
Beka Bellhy led the Presidents with a game-high 30 points, a season high for the senior. She was one point shy from tying her career-high of 31 against Pitt-Greensburg last season. Belly also brought down 11 rebounds, for her sixth double-double of the season and the 10th of her career.
Â
Amirah Moore,
Taylor Cortazzo and
Rachel Bellhy each had 12 points of their own, adding to the offensive effort for W&J. Moore also dished out a game- and career-high 12 assists, notching the first double-double of her career. The 12 helpers are the most for a President since Valentine's Day 2009 when Kennan Killeen had 12 at Saint Vincent. Moore was one rebound shy of picking up a triple-double against Geneva, finishing with nine boards.
Â
After trailing, 40-39, at halftime, the Presidents outscored the Golden Tornadoes by a 48-32 margin in the second half to pull away with their seventh-straight win.
Â
W&J moves to 17-3 on the season, and 12-1 in the PAC. The Presidents return home on Saturday, February 6th, to take on Waynesburg in another PAC game. Saturday will be the Alumni Day and Presidents' Pride Day at the Henry Memorial Center, honoring the past W&J basketball players and current student athletes' accomplishments. The women's game is slated for a 4 PM tip-off.
