Stevenson secures ECAC South title over W&J, 73-70

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team suffered a 73-70 defeat against Stevenson in Sunday's ECAC Division III South Women's Basketball Championship Game at the Henry Memorial Center.
 
The loss concludes the Presidents tremendous season at 24-6, tying the program's most wins in a single season with the 2008-09 squad.
 
W&J was in control for most of the first half, leading 22-20 after one quarter, until the Mustangs stormed back to execute a 15-3 run just before the conclusion of the half to hold a 39-34 lead after 20 minutes.
 
The Presidents cut the deficit to one late in the fourth quarter thanks to a 17-8 run that started with about seven minutes left in the period. W&J inbounded the ball in the front court with 10 seconds remaining, but was unable to get a shot off to potentially tie the game before dropping the 73-70 decision.
 
W&J featured four players in double figures with Beka Bellhy accumulating a game-high 26 points and nine boards. Bellhy extended her streak of reaching double figures in a game to 13.
 
Amirah Moore had 15 points, five helpers and 4 steals while Taylor Cortazzo and Danielle Parker each had 10 points and four rebounds.
 
The game was Beka Bellhy's 117th of her storied career, which set a new W&J women's basketball record. Bellhy finishes her career with the Presidents sitting in third for most points scored all-time, 1,602; second-place in highest single-season point total, 579; and sits in seventh-place for career rebounds with 697.
