GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson split its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Thiel, featuring a score of 8-0 in favor of Thiel in the first matchup and a 10-6 victory for W&J in game two.

In the second game of the twin bill, the Presidents outscored the Tomcats 6-0 in the first four innings.
Nick Vento and
Frank Fortunato led off the scoring, when Vento reaching safely on a fielder's choice paired with an error by the shortstop, scoring
Adam LaRue. Fortunato scored
Derek Helbing with an RBI single to increase W&J's lead to 2-0 in the first inning.

The Presidents added two more runs in the second, making the score 4-0, after LaRue grounded out while brining home
Nick Morton and Helbing singling to left field plating
Michael Ruffing.

The fourth inning featured Morton reaching home and advancing Ruffing to third, via Helbing reaching safely on a fielder's choice to boost the score to 5-0. Shortly after, Vento singled through the left side, to improve the score to 6-0, scoring Ruffing.

Thiel would finally get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, 6-1, thanks to a homerun.

W&J added to their lead in the fifth inning by scoring three runs when Morton and LaRue both recorded RBI singles as well as Ruffing bringing in
Ryan Sciullo after reaching safely on a fielder's choice.

Nick Gatins reached safely on an error by the third baseman in the top of the seventh plating
Mullen Socha to cap W&J's scoring at 10-1.

The Tomcats rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh but could not overcome the deficit.

Riley Groves, 4-2 this season, picked up the victory allowing only one earned run on five hits in six innings of work.

The Presidents were shutout in the first game of the doubleheader, only recording five hits, while surrendering eight runs to Thiel.

W&J moves to 13-11 overall and 7-4 in the PAC.

The Presidents' next game is slated for Sunday, April 17, at 1 p.m. against Thiel for a nine-inning PAC contest.
