Presidents edge Lions on the road, 10-9

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team was able to recover after falling behind in the second half to top Mount St. Joseph, 10-9, in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.

The win, W&J's ninth straight, improves the Presidents to 10-4 overall this season with an unblemished 7-0 mark in league games. The Presidents will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, April 24, for a 1 p.m. match at league co-leader Transylvania (Ky.). The winner of that game will claim the 2016 ORWLC regular season title and hosting rights for the ORLC Women's Tournament Friday-Saturday, April 29-30. MSJ drops to 7-8 this year and 5-3 in the ORLC.

W&J opened up a 4-1 lead midway through the first half as Diana Harvey recorded a hat trick and Ashley Bulger added another score. Caroline Kallos posted two assists, with Bulger and Alex Dikos also assisting on goals in that time. The home team tallied three of the final five goals of the first half, but Kallos capped the scoring with 29 seconds remaining in the half, as W&J held a 6-4 advantage at halftime.

The Lions stormed back to open play in the second period, using three-straight goals to move ahead, 7-6. W&J answered right back with three goals, one each from Monica Ewansik, Harvey and Kallos, to lead 9-7, with 11:37 remaining. A pair of goals close together tied the match at 9-9, but Bulger scored the eventual game winner with 9:12 left to play, assisted by Lauren Brown, 10-9.

Michaela Mulokey picked up her ninth win of the season, making a career-best 15 saves in the process, which mark the most for a President since Kelsey Roetenberg made 20 against Allegheny on March 11, 2015.
