Senior Day results in doubleheader split against Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson softball team split in a doubleheader at home versus Waynesburg by first securing a 1-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets and then falling 7-0 on Senior Day 2016. Three seniors were honored for their hard work and dedication throughout their time as student-athletes.
 
In the first contest of the day, Emily Watson batted in Rachel Marx in the bottom of the first inning for the lone run of the game.
 
Marx had a pair of hits out of three at bats, while Abby Cunningham posted one.
 
Senior Krista McCartney pitched for the entire seven innings, allowing only two hits with no earned runs while throwing five strikeouts.
 
Game two saw Waynesburg score twice in the top of the third inning. The Yellow Jackets increased the margin of their lead with five runs in the top of the fourth inning, moving the score to 7-0.
 
Marx, Cunningham, Watson and Taylor Andres all notched a hit in the second match.
 
Andres was in the circle for 3.2 innings, sacrificing only two walks and a pair of earned runs. Watson threw the final three innings and only gave up one hit, no runs, while pitching six strikeouts.
 
W&J ends its 2016 season with an overall record of 15-19 and a conference record of 10-8.
