BEAVER FALLS, Pa. –
Rachel Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) scored 14 points in her return to action as the Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with an 86-66 win at Geneva in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21.
After leading by just four points at halftime, the Presidents' offense came alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Golden Tornadoes by a margin of 28-11 to put the game out of reach, taking a 62-41 lead into the final frame. The Presidents made 11-of-19 shots (.579) from the field in the quarter and connected on 4-of-7 long-range shots while limiting Geneva to just 5-of-17 shooting (.294).
Bellhy shot 7-for-10 from the floor in the game and pulled in five rebounds in her first appearance since Dec. 3 at Saint Vincent.
Taylor Cortazzo (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from deep, to go along with three rebounds. This also marked Cortazzo's first 20-point game of this season.
Amirah Moore (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) dropped 14 points and shot 6-for-9 from the floor while she also pulled down six boards, dished out three assists and came away with three steals.
Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) pulled in a game-high 13 rebounds for her fourth double-digit rebound game of the season, while
Mia Woytovich (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) pulled in eight rebounds to go with her six points, four assists and two steals.
In the second half, the Presidents shot 21-of-40 (.525) to finish the game with a field goal percentage of 43.6. For the game, the Presidents pulled down 55 rebounds, second most in a game this season (72 vs. Geneva, Nov. 30), while holding advantages in points off turnovers (16-7), second chance points (23-6), points in the paint (30-24) and fast break points (8-2).
The Presidents will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25, when they host Saint Vincent in a 6 p.m. PAC contest.
