HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team saw its nine-game winning streak snapped in a shootout after 100 minutes of play was not enough to decide a 2-1 loss at Juniata.
The Presidents fall to 10-4 overall on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 10-6.
Gabby Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford) tied the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute off a feed from
Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison), forcing the two seven-on-seven overtime periods that were still not enough to decide a winner.
Jenna Jaworski (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) scored on W&J's fifth chance to tie the shootout at 1-1, but Juniata scored on their final opportunity to take the shootout and match 2-1.
The home team led in shots, 14-6, marking just the sixth time this season W&J was held to single digits. Karr led with three shots, while three others recorded one.
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) suffered the loss in goal despite making seven saves, her season largest total of the season.
With nonconference play complete, W&J will wrap up Empire 8 play on the road on Saturday, Oct. 28, traveling to Hoboken, N.J. for an 11 a.m. match at Stevens. The Presidents have already clinched the regular season crown in the Empire 8 and will host the league tournament on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 3-4.
