GROVE CITY, Pa. – A late-match goal from Grove City ended the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team's season, 2-1, in the Presidents' Athletic Conference semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The Presidents conclude their 2017 campaign with an overall mark of 12-6-1 while the loss also snapped the team's season-long seven-game winning streak.

Just over three minutes after the Wolverines took the first lead of the game in the 38th minute,
Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)) quickly equalized for the Presidents, scoring on a shot from the left wing.

After one half of play, W&J held a 12-8 shot advantage over Grove City and put five shots on goal to four from the Wolverines.

The match remained at a 1-1 draw for most of the second half despite both teams having opportunities to score throughout the period. In the 87th minute, Grove City was able to find the back of the net on a header following a throw in, capping the scoring in the game.

Grimm and
Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) led the Presidents with six shots and three on goal apiece.
Josie Madden (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) got three shots off in the match and put all on target.

Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) stopped six out of eight shots on goal in the game as the keeper for W&J.

The Presidents finished the match with 21 shots to 13 from Grove City and combined to put 11 on target. For the eighth time this season, W&J totaled at least 20 total shots and at least 10 shots on goal.
