WASHINGTON, Pa. – A last second Washington & Jefferson shot was blocked by a Grove City defender to prevent the tying tally as the men's soccer team fell, 1-0, at home in Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Friday, Oct. 6.
Â
The loss drops W&J to 7-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action, while Grove City moves to 5-4-3 and 1-1 in the PAC.
Â
The Presidents fell behind in the first half as the Wolverines scored in the 15th minute, which proved to be the only score of the game.
Â
A foul around midfield with 10 seconds left stopped the clock and allowed the Presidents a final chance to score the equalizing goal.
Matt Prezioso (Clairton, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) booted the ball towards the goal, into a crowd of players, which resulted in a shot from
Kyle Wisniewski (Green Bay, Wis./South West) that was blocked by a Grove City defender, and brought the game to a close.
Â
Paul Mokrzan (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) and Prezioso led the team with three shots and one on goal each. Five other Presidents added a shot apiece, giving W&J an 11-6 shot advantage.
Â
Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) started in goal and made two saves.
Â
The Presidents will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Geneva for a conference showdown.
