W&J rides strong second half to first win of season at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team earned its first victory of the 2017-18 campaign with an 88-81 win over Muskingum on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The win improves W&J to 1-3 overall on the season, while Muskingum falls to 0-3.
 
With the game tied at 40 at halftime, the Presidents outscored the Fighting Muskies 48-41 in the closing half, including a 13-4 run in the opening minutes.
 
Brian Lindquist (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) led the team with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor to go along with four rebounds, an assist and a block. Nicholas Campalong (Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) closed the contest with 16 points and shot 4-for-5 from the field and connected on 8-of-10 free throw attempts to add to his eight rebounds.
 
Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) and Mike Zappala (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) earned double-digit scoring efforts, tallying 12 and 13 points, respectively, while both netting three three-point-field goals. DeVito hit on 4-of-7 total shot attempts and came away with three steals while Zappala made four out of five shots from the floor, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
 
Brian Graytok (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added nine points and a game-high four assists while Amos Luptak (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.
 
W&J shot 30-for-53 (.566) from the floor and hit on 7-of-14 (.500) three-pointers and 21-of-29 (.724) from the free throw line. Today's game was the first time since Feb. 19, 2013, at Bethany that W&J posted shooting percentages of at least .500 from the floor, .500 from long range and .700 on free throws.
 
The Presidents will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 29, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference battle against Saint Vincent at Henry Memorial Center at 8:00 p.m.
