Presidents extend winning streak to four at Allegheny, 78-61

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team extended its win-streak to four games with a 78-61 victory over Allegheny on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The Presidents improve to 4-0 to begin the 2017-18 season, the best start to a season since the 2009-10 team began 5-0.

After tying the game at 12 with 4:28 left in the first quarter, W&J went on a 10-2 run and put the score at 22-14 heading into the first intermission. Allegheny brought the game within three points before halftime, however, with W&J leading by a score of 40-37.

The Presidents then went on a 15-3 run to start the third quarter, led by Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) with six points and Lauren Gilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) tallying four points and two assists during the stretch.

The Gators narrowed the gap to three, again, to close out the quarter before W&J outscored Allegheny, 21-7, in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

Parker led all players with 25 points and shot 10-of-17 from the floor, while also adding five made free throws, nine rebounds and two blocks. Gilbert tallied 16 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, three assists, and four steals. Amirah Moore (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) rounded out the double-digit scorers with twelve points and also pulled in six boards.

Mia Woytovich (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) and Mya Gordon (Washington, Pa./Washington) grabbed eight and six rebounds, respectively, to add to the 51-40 advantage held by W&J. Nicole Ricketts (Montgomery Village, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) earned three steals to help the defense.

W&J shot .440 from the floor and hit on 11-of-12 free throws (.917) and limited Allegheny to a .313 shooting percentage.

The Presidents will return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 29th, as they host Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action with tip-off slated for 6:00 p.m.
