W&J finishes seventh at MAWPC West Championship

How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team opened play in the Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference-West Championship with a 17-2 loss to Gannon on Saturday.
 
Top Performers: Troy Smith (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) and Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored the goals for the Presidents with tallies in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
 
The Rest: Mac Hennessy (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) made 13 saves in net for W&J.

Result: L, 19-10
 
How it Happened: The Presidents dropped their second game of the day by a 19-10 margin to Connecticut College.
 
Top Performers: Nick Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) led the way in game two with four goals, recording a pair of scores in the third and fourth quarters.
 
The Rest: Smith, Tyler Francis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Dylan Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) rounded out the scoring in the game with two goals each. Hennessy stopped nine shots as the goalkeeper.

Result: L, 14-12
 
How it Happened: In Sunday's seventh place game, W&J narrowly fell to Monmouth (Ill.) by a score of 14-12 in its final match of the 2017 season.
 
Top Performers: Smith, Spehar and Ethan Moy (New York, N.Y./Math, Science, Engineering at City College) all scored three times to lead W&J's strongest offensive game of the weekend.
 
The Rest: Geister and David Boyer (York, Pa./Central York) combined for the other three W&J goals as Geister notched two of those three scores. Hennessy stopped 13 of 27 shots in the game as the Presidents' goalkeeper.
