Presidents cruise to two wins over Bison

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's and women's swimming & diving teams earned a win each over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Bethany in a dual meet on Wednesday night, Dec. 6.
 
The men won by a score of 77-57 while the women were victorious, 86-58.
 
Zach Lauer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led the men's side with wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.82) and the 200 individual medley (2:12.41), in addition to helping the 200 medley relay to a win as well as he swam the third leg and helped the team finish the event in 1:08.82.
 
Jeremy Glasner (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) opened the 200 medley relay and also tallied a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (57.08). Jared Rebman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), who swam second in the 200 medley relay, added a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.73) and the 200 individual medley (2:21.26). Matt Noel (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) closed the medley relay win and also finished third in the 50 free (24.13).
 
Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was victorious in the 100 butterfly (56.82) while Ethan Moy (New York, N.Y./Math, Science, Engineering at City College) swam the opening leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:36.28), followed by Geister, Owen Hanna (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Glasner, respectively. Hanna tallied a second-place finish, individually, in the 50 freestyle (23.45).
 
On the women's side, Chloe Magyari (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) won twice individually and helped a relay to a win as well. Her individual wins came in the 100 butterfly (1:01.50) and the 200 freestyle (2:03.98) while she swam the opening leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:52.87) followed by Hayley Georgetti (Washington, Pa./Linsly), Kiera MacWhinnie (South Portland, Maine/Waynflete School) and Alexandria Daum (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), respectively.
 
MacWhinnie and Daum logged two runner-up finishes each MacWhinnie in the 50 freestyle (27.90) and the 100 butterfly (1:10.87) and Daum in the 500 (6:10.90) and 1000 freestyles (12:43.10).
 
Jillian McElhaney (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:33.06 and was second in the 100 backstroke (1:09.14). She also opened the victorious 200 medley relay (2:04.66) as she was followed by Georgetti, Victoria Metz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and Alexis Glenn (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley).
 
Metz recorded second-place showings in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.74) and the 200 individual medley (2:41.35) and Glenn won the 100 backstroke (1:04.66). Tara O'Toole (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Delaney Burke (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) rounded out the top women's swimmers with O'Toole emerging victorious in the 1000 freestyle (12:33.15) and Burke placing second in the 200 freestyle (2:21.05).
 
As for the divers, Theo Skoric (Vanderbilt, Pa./Laurel Highlands) recorded scores of 210.90 on the one-meter board and 183.20 on the three-meter as the only male competitor.
 
Kaitlyn Pawcio (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) and Rebecca Kirby (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) performed as the only two female competitors with Pawcio edging out Kirby on both boards, 246.80-206.35 at one meter and 237.35-191.40 on the three-meter board.
 
The Presidents swimmers will get back in action on Saturday, Jan. 13, with a home dual meet against Penn State Behrend at 1:00 p.m. to kick off the 2018 slate.
