WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents struck first, but Susquehanna never looked back from an 11-goal surge in the first half en route to a 17-5 win at Alexandre Stadium.
Washington & Jefferson drops to 1-3 on the season, while the River Hawks improve to 4-1 this year.
Kyle Heinig (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) opened the scoring 6:15 into play with an unassisted marker, his team and Ohio River Lacrosse Conference leading 11th of the season. The next 11 goals in the game, however, were tallied by the guests as Susquehenna opened up an 11-1 lead before
Devon Curran (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) got on the board with 1:52 remaining in the second quarter. Curran's goal was assisted by
Ben Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and sent the teams into halftime with the score 11-2.
In the second half,
Pat Heidecker (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area),
Bryan Whipkey (Poland, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) and Ward all found the back of the net, with Ward assisted on Heidecker's tally and the latter returning the favor later on.
Curran led W&J with five shots, with Heinig and Ward contributing four apiece.
Noah Cohen (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) made 22 saves on the day, the most for a President since
Jacob Succop recorded 23 saves on March 21, 2015 against Goucher.
W&J will hit the road for the next five games, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 at Otterbein (Ohio).
