PITTSBURGH, Pa. – No. 17 La Roche walked off in an extra frame to complete the doubleheader sweep of No. 19 Washington & Jefferson, 6-3 and 5-4.

Corey Lazor doubled to lead off the bottom of the eighth and eventually came in to score on David Lemley's single.

W&J was able to force extra innings by tying the game with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Nick Gatins (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) doubled with two outs and
James Artale (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. A single by
Dante Dalesandro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) allowed Gatins to score and prompted a Redhawks' pitching change.
Adam LaRue (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) reached on an error that allowed both runners to score to knot the game, 4-4.

W&J initially tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when
Ryan Sciullo (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) posted a one-out triple and scored on a wild pitch. La Roche added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to build the 4-1 lead.

Gatins went 3-for-4 in the night cap, the lone multi-hit game for W&J.

Tim Mulvey (Glenshaw, Pa./OLSH) took his first loss of the year to drop to 2-1, working 2.1 innings of relief and giving up one run on three hits and three walks.
Ben Marsico (Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny) started and worked the first 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.

In the opener, W&J took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning after allowing a two-run homer to Luis Navedo in the bottom of the first.
Mark Merlino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led off with his fifth homer of the year to move into a tie for the team lead. Sciullo followed with a single and, with two outs, Dalesandro reached on a single and eventually came all the way around after a pair of errors on the play allowed both Presidents to score.

Two runs in the third gave La Roche the lead back, while a pair of insurance runs were added in the fourth.

Sciullo and Dalesandro each went 2-for-3 in the game, while four Presidents tallied one hit apiece.

Joe Vita (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) suffered the loss to drop to 0-2 on the year, working 4.0 innings and giving up seven hits and six earned runs.
Will Bowser (Burgettstown, Pa./Madonna (W.Va.)) worked two scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit and striking out three.

The losses drop W&J to 18-7 overall, while the pair of victories improve La Roche to 24-6 behind a 14-game winning streak.

The Presidents have a quick turnaround, hosting NAIA-member Point Park for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19.
