WASHINGTON, Pa. –  No. 19 Washington & Jefferson scored 10 runs in the sixth inning of the first game, and 12 unanswered runs in the second game to push past Geneva, 13-1 and 12-0 on Saturday, April 22, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Â
The sweep pushes the Presidents' record to 23-7, with a 16-2 conference showing.
Â
Scoring in the bottom of the sixth of game one started when
Ryan Sciullo (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) hit a triple to right center, scoring
Frank Fortunato (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) from third. Sciullo was the first of 11 straight batters that reached safely for the Presidents in the inning, allowing for 10 runs to cross the plate and six W&J players to collect at least one RBI.
Â
The Presidents' first three runs of the game came in during the fifth inning, with two runs scoring on an error and the third coming in on a sac fly from
Adam LaRue (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny).
Â
W&J's bats got hot in the second game when
Kevin Begley (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) scored on a sacrifice fly and LaRue and
Nick Vento (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) reached base by way of a single and a walk, respectively. Fortunato then whacked a homer to left field, plating LaRue and Vento, 4-0.Â
Dan Trettel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) brought
Mark Merlino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and
Nick Gatins (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) around to score on a double to left center, putting the Presidents up 6-0.
Â
W&J scored six more runs in the next three innings, and allowed no runs on only one hit, giving it the 12-0 win.
Â
Gatins and Fortunato led the Presidents with three hits on the day, with LaRue, Sciullo, Vento, and
Derek Helbing (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) adding two hits each. A total of 12 different Presidents drove in at least one run, highlighted by four from Fortunato and three by Vento.
Â
Sciullo's triple in the sixth inning of the first game was the 12th of his career, tying him for second in W&J history.
Â
Trevor Kerr (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) and
Bryce Schnatterly (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) started games one and two, respectively, with each earning a win. Kerr (4-2) pitched six solid innings, allowing only one run on a lone hit, with three strikeouts. Schnatterly (5-0) threw four innings, allowing no runs on six hits to match his career high for wins in a season.

The Presidents are back in action Thursday, April 27 when they travel to Muskingum for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference matchup.
