W&J locks up undefeated ORLC slate with 19-5 win at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Presidents locked up their second straight undefeated Ohio River Lacrosse Conference slate with a 19-5 win at Thiel.

Washington & Jefferson improves to 11-4 in 2017 behind a 10 match winning streak and 9-0 record in league action. The Presidents have now won 18 straight ORLC matches and 18 consecutive games in the month of April.

W&J raced out to a 12-3 halftime lead before cruising to the 19-5 victory.

Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) led all players and matched her career high with nine points on five goals and four assists. Over the last four matches for W&J, the senior has 29 points and 20 goals and is now tied for the team lead at 66 points. She also tied for the game high with five ground balls and equaled the team lead with three draw controls. Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) posted seven points behind six goals and a helper, while also recording five ground balls and three draw controls and forcing four turnovers to lead all players.

Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) and Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) both contributed four points, as Boulas established a new season high with four points and LaRochelle tallied her 10th career hat trick and dished out an assist. Boulas also secured three ground balls and controlled a pair of draws. Lauren Brown (Novi, Mich./Novi) registered three points with a pair of helpers, while also corralling three ground balls and two draw controls.

In the game, W&J fired off 49 shots and held Thiel to just 10.

Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) improved to 9-3 on the year with her eighth-straight winning decision after making one save in the first half. The senior netminder improves to 21-5 in her career. Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) stopped a pair of shots in the second half.

W&J will host the ORLC Tournament at Alexandre Stadium for a consecutive season on Friday-Saturday, May 5-6. The top-seeded Presidents will take on fourth-seeded Hanover at 4 p.m. in Friday's second semifinal and will meet the winner of the first semifinal, second-seeded Transylvania versus third-seeded Saint Vincent (1 p.m.), on Saturday at a time to be determined. For the first time, the winner of the ORLC tournament will gain the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.
