Presidents lose twice at Westminster on Wednesday

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson softball team suffered a pair of 2-0 defeats at the hands of Westminster on Wednesday, April 5, in a road Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader.
 
The Titans scored once in the first inning and once in the fifth in the first game and scored once in the fourth and sixth innings each in the second game to sweep the doubleheader against the Presidents.
 
The Presidents finished with six hits in the first game, including a 2-for-3 performance from Meghan Staab (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks), and totaled three hits in the second game, two coming off the bat of Brooke Lapia (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley). Lapia also added a hit in the first game to lead the Presidents with three hits between the two games.
 
Kristen Fuertes (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) pitched a complete game in the first game and allowed two earned runs on eight hits with no walks. Taylor Andres (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) followed with a complete game of her own in the second game and allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
 
The Presidents will get back on the field on Saturday, April 8, when they travel to Geneva for a PAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
