Presidents bow out of NCAA Tournament at No. 13 Catholic

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-1 defeat to No. 13 Catholic in its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history on Sunday afternoon, May 14.
 
The Presidents close their season with an overall record of 13-5, their fifth season since 2009 with 13 wins and the second in a row.
 
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) scored the lone W&J goal in the game, her 63rd goal of the season to tie Brittany Fradkin's (2012) single season record, with Katelyn White (Linthicum, Md./North County) getting the assist.
 
The Cardinals scored the first nine goals of the game over the first 8:02 of the first half before LaRochelle put the Presidents on the board at the 21:27 mark. Catholic answered with eight more first half goals to take a 17-1 lead into halftime, followed by three second-half goals to cap the scoring.
 
Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) tied the game high with four ground balls to go along with three draw controls, tied for a game high, and a game-best four caused turnovers. Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) also won three draw controls and scooped up three ground balls in addition to one caused turnover on defense.
 
Katelynn Linthicum (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic), Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) each caused one turnover on defense and combined to pick up four ground balls.
 
Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) started in net and played the first 21:17 of the first half before playing the final 3:15 of the second half, making two saves in her 24:32 of combined action. Maute relieved Mulokey in the first half and made five saves in 35:28 between the first and second halves.
