LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Fourth-seeded Washington & Jefferson was eliminated by top-seeded Transylvania in the semifinals of the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Men's Championship Tournament, 10-4.
The defeat ends W&J's season at 5-12, while Transylvania advances to the ORLC title game against second-seeded Saint Vincent in improving to 13-3.
Rocco Ruscitto (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and
Ben Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) gave the Presidents a 2-1 lead with 5:33 remaining in the first quarter. The Pioneers, however, scored the next five goals to open up a 6-2 lead before
Pat Heidecker (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and
John Shook (Enola, Pa./Trinity) (man-up) scored in the final 4:13 of the second quarter to bring W&J within 6-4 at halftime.
The home team found the net four times in the second half to prevail with the 10-4 victory.
Joseph Tritschler (New Kensington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) picked up a team-best four ground balls and tied for the game high with four caused turnovers.
David Whipkey (Poland, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) won five-of-nine face-offs on the afternoon.
Noah Cohen (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) made 16 saves in the defeat to end his rookie campaign with 263 saves, a W&J single-season record. That total also puts him fifth for career saves on the Presidents' all-time list.
