Presidents notch 2-0 road victory over Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team earned a nonconference road win over Kenyon on Wednesday, Sept. 13, by a score of 2-0.

Josie Madden (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) got the Presidents on the board early as she fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box into the top left corner of the net, giving W&J a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.

The game remained at a 1-0 Presidents advantage until the 64th minute when Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)) volleyed in a cross from Sarah Refosco (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette), giving W&J an insurance goal and the final tally on the scoreboard.

Madden's goal was her second of the season as she has scored in back-to-back games while Grimm's second half goal was her first of the campaign. Grimm and Madden both took three shots in the game as Grimm's goal was her only shot on target to Madden's two shots on goal.

Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)), Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) and Alexa Smith (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) all shot twice in the game while Jackie Cepicka's (Murrysville, Pa./Shady Side Academy) only shot was on goal.

Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) earned her first win of the season and made three saves to record her first shutout of the season and the 11th of her career.

As a team, W&J outshot Kenyon by a 15-9 margin with a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Presidents will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they host Penn State-Behrend in a 2:00 p.m. nonconference match.
