How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team began its competition at the CWPA Division III Eastern Championship with a 16-10 win over Monmouth.
Top Performer: Nick Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) made 15 saves to earn his fifth victory this season. Spehar also logged a team-high four steals.
The Rest: Dustin Reinke (Fresno, Calif./Buchanan) and
Tyler Francis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) paced the W&J offense with three goals apiece.
Will Kitsch (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin),
Dylan Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph), and
Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each scored two goals to finish second on the team.

The Rest: Reinke and
Cam Spicer (Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) finished the evening with one goal and one assist apiece. Spehar made nine saves against the high-powered Beaver offense.

Opponent: Penn State Behrend
Result: L, 11-12
How it Happened: W&J battled Penn State Behrend in the third-place game, falling by a heart-breaking 12-11 final score. The game-winner was scored with just two seconds left in regulation.
Top Performer: Troy Smith (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) scored four goals and dished out one assist against MIT.
The Rest: Kitsch ended the day second on the team with three goals, while Reinke rounded out the Presidents' multiple-goal scorers with two. Reinke also logged two assists, just one shy of the team leader, Francis, who dished out three. Spehar concluded his tournament with 12 more saves to keep the Red & Black within one goal.
What's Next: The Presidents will have 13 days off, as they will next challenge Mckendree on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 12 p.m. in Lebanon, Ill.
