W&J concludes Gary Troyer Tournament with pair of close loses

Result: L, 8-9
 
How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team continued play at the Gary Troyer Tournament with a hard-fought 9-8 setback to Caltech on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Claremont, Calif. 
 
Top Performer: Freshman Robert Koch (Worcester, Pa./La Salle College) led the way for the Presidents with a trio of goals against the Beavers. 
 
The Rest: Fellow rookie Will Kitsch (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) finished second on the team with two goals, while Kyle Rubenstein (Abington, Pa./Upper Dublin), Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), and Dylan Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) rounded out the team's goal scorers with one tally. In net, Nick Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) made 13 saves for the Presidents to keep the match close.

How it Happened: The Presidents ended the Gary Troyer Tournament with a 19-12 loss to Chapman. 
 
Top Performer: The nightcap belonged to two W&J upperclassmen, as both Gwinn and Troy Smith (San Marcos, Calif. / San Marcos) finished tied for the team lead with four goals apiece. 
 
The Rest: Kitsch finished second on the Red & Black with three goals to give him five on the day. Dustin Reinke (Fresno, Calif./Buchanan) rounded out W&J's goal scorers with one tally. Spehar made nine saves against the Panthers to conclude his tournament. 
 
What's Next:
The Presidents have one more match during their California trip, as they will battle Occidental on Monday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in Los Angeles.
