Presidents go on the road to best Medaille, 69-65

Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team secured its first win of the season by downing Medaille, 69-65, to open the Mavericks' WNY Knee and Orthopedic Surgery Tournament.

W&J improves to 1-2 on the young 2018-19 season and will look to even its record when it closes play at the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. against Fredonia State (N.Y.).

The Presidents held a seven-point lead (32-25) at intermission. A quick 13-2 run by the home team over the opening 4:29 of the second half put the Mavericks in front by a 38-34 lead with 15:31 to play. Medaille would lead for a majority of the second half, with W&J forcing a couple of ties along the way. A 7-0 spurt by the hosts late in the period put the Mavericks up by a 64-57 count with 2:24 to go, but W&J answered in strong fashion, closing the game on a 12-1 run to capture the victory.

Seven of the 12 game-clinching points down the stretch came from Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller), who hit a three-pointer, layup and two free throws during the spurt. Seemann led all players with a career-high 25 points, his third game to begin the year with double digit points.

Zach Queen (Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield Area) added nine points on three treys, with Primo Zini (Morgantown, W. Va./Trinity Christian) added eight and three Presidents pitching in seven points: Sven Zepic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), Nicholas Campalong (Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) and Alexander Skowron (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley). Campalong's six rebounds paced the Presidents, as did Zepic's five assists and two steals.
